Lego X-Wing Taking Off
This is a short animation of a Lego Star Wars X-Wing taking off. It is the most complex project I have posted so far, and has been in the works on and off for around a year. The X-Wing is the same model as in my first render. I built the models using LeoCAD, and then exported them from there into Blender 3.4. The Lego material was made by me (you can download it here). Textures are from AmbientCG, and the HDRI is from Poly Haven. This render was my first time using Natron for some of the compositing. The animation was rendered at 1080p with 1024 samples, while the still image was rendered at 4k. The animation is 15fps to make it look more like a stop-motion animation. See below for uncomposited and clay renders, as well as the compositing setups.
Things to Improve:
The camera movement isn't amazing, especially in the second half of the video. There are also some fireflies in the lower left-hand corner of the animation, but I think it's out of the way enough that most people won't notice it. Also, there is a yellow bar along the left side that presumably came from something in compositing, but I'm not sure what (possibly lens distortion?). At any rate, I decided to leave it in there as an Artistic Defect®. Maybe adding some random motion to the plants could have helped simulate wind across the desert. Additionally, I could have put more work into compositing, but overall, I'm pretty happy with this one.
